The best way to learn is through making mistakes (this seems simple, but often it’s the unwillingness to make mistakes that leads to anxiety)
TALK to your doctor- breaking down the communication barrier is a small yet massive hurdle (it can be scary, but worth it!)
Repeat the provider’s words and trail off if you didn’t get everything. “I didn’t quite catch that…” >>> “Can you repeat that”
Use abbreviations when you can but make sure to recheck
This may be controversial but let the doctor know you just got out of training. If they have any sense they won’t go a million mph
Often new scribes don’t feel “ good enough” but the reality is that the training is minimal for most people, but the courage to start and make mistakes is what will differentiate you from others. It has nothing to do with how smart or good you are. It’s just about the pain of learning something new in a fast paced environment. You can do it!
I recommend Quizlets and knowing the diseases as far as what their symptoms are and how are they diagnosed…
